At Pearsall Primary School, students in Years 3 to 6 participate in the Japanese language program for one hour each week. Lessons are engaging and interactive, developing students’ skills in speaking, listening, reading and writing while building an understanding and appreciation of Japanese culture. Students are encouraged to extend themselves through a self-paced Karate Belt reading program, where they work towards reading Japanese words and scripts of increasing difficulty, as well as differentiated learning activities using iPads to support and challenge learners at all levels.
Students also have the opportunity to participate in a Japanese Club at recess to further extend their interest in the language and culture.
In addition, Pearsall Primary School has recently established a connection with Katoh Gakuen School in Japan, providing students with opportunities to participate in cultural exchange experiences with visiting Japanese students, including homestay opportunities and shared school activities.
